What is SEO?
SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization. SEO in short is optimizing the web pages on your website so they are properly indexed and found in search engines such as Google for the products or services you provide. The best part is, search engines like Google actually tell you what you need to do and how to optimize your website for optimum results for you or your business.
How SEO Works
If you ever walk into a Library or book store in search of a particular book or type of book, they have computers you use to search for and locate the book you would like. The computer identifies the section of the library or book store where you can find the book(s) that match your criteria. Search Engines like Google and Bing work much the same way. They return web pages and web sites they have indexed in their database that best meet your search criteria. The operative word being indexed.
Each web page within a website has the ability to be optimized for proper indexing in the search engines for the appropriate keywords and/or keyword phrases desirable for you or your business. You need to make sure your web pages are in fact indexed with the search engines and ensure they are indexed under the appropriate search phrases that a consumer or prospective customer might search when trying to find your business.
Search Engines like Google all strive to continually return web pages and websites that best match what a user is searching. Their motivation is simple; the better they do at giving you what you’re looking for, the more you’ll continue to use their search engine.
